我在90年代在拉夫堡大学读书。管理科学——是的，真的很无聊。但有趣的是，我丈夫也在那里读过书，后来我女儿也在那里读书。这真的成了一个传统。
我女儿现在在香港大学读博士，专注于自闭症和特殊需求儿童心理学。她在英国留过学，在这里工作了几年，现在回来做研究。她非常努力，有时学习，有时为她的导师工作。
现在对自闭症的认识多了很多，特别是年轻的孩子。他们现在做了很多研究，所以人们越来越了解这方面的问题。但问题是，政府的资源不多。有些孩子竟然要等六年才能看医生。真是难以置信。

你知道，现在有很多大公司都搬到中国了。所以如果你打算做HR或者商业，你可能会预期要在中国工作。学好普通话很重要。
最终，你只需要追随你的热情。如果你不缺资金，就去做你热衷的事。这是最重要的，我觉得。你只需要找到一个目标。确保你有一个长期目标。否则，你不知道要做什么，你可能会浪费时间。看到人们选择了错误的课程，然后不得不重新开始，真的很惨。所以，一定要有一个长期目标。仔细考虑。不要犯错。但如果你犯了错，也不用担心。第一个学期，第一年，你可以改变。
I was born here in Hong Kong. I used to work in an export company here. I liked it - the people, the time, and the nature of the work. We had a factory in Tianjin and Beijing, a shoes factory. I worked in Hong Kong's office, coordinating with the factory and our customers in the U.S., U.K., and Europe. I was in sales and marketing, introducing products - new and old - to our customers. We held exhibitions in China and the U.S. too.
In Hong Kong, if you get a job in marketing, it's nothing like what you read in books. It's more sales than marketing. You probably deal with more customers than actual marketing of the product. I dealt with the workers manufacturing up in China, supplies from Hong Kong or other parts of the world, and customers from around the world.
I studied at Loughborough University back in the 90s. Management Sciences - yeah, that was boring. But it's funny, my husband went there too, and later my daughter. It's a whole legacy.
My daughter's now doing a PhD here at HongKong University in psychology, focusing on autism and special needs children. She studied abroad in the UK, worked for a couple of years here, and now she's back doing her research. She works really hard, sometimes studying, sometimes working for her mentor.
There's a lot more awareness about autism now, especially in young children. They're doing a lot more research nowadays, so people are finding out more and more about it. The problem is, the resources from the government aren't much. Some kids actually wait for six years to see a doctor. It's unbelievable.
Looking back, if I had a chance to start over, I would never ever choose business. It's too general, too broad. When you start looking for jobs, it can be a problem because you're not specialized in any area. My advice? Just find your long-term goals. Think carefully. Do something you really want to do. Seriously.
You know, there are a lot of large companies that have moved up to China now. So if you're going into HR or business, you might expect to work in China. It's important to pick up Mandarin.
In the end, you just have to follow your passion. If you're not lacking in funding, just go do whatever you're passionate about. That's most important, I think. You just need to find a goal. Make sure you have a long-term goal. Otherwise, you won't know what to do and you'll probably just be wasting time. It's terrible to see people make the wrong choices in courses and have to go back and start right from the beginning. So, make sure you have a long-term goal. Just think about it carefully. Don't make mistakes. But if you do make mistakes, don't worry. For the first term, first year, you can always change.
